Ruth Chapter 2 Part 1
Naomi and Ruth returned during the beginning of the Barley Festival. As explained by Dr. Baruch, this is important because it was a time of bringing in the Omer or the sheaves (first fruit of the crop of Barley). The first day begins with a commandment of bringing the first ripened sheaf and wave it before the LORD in a prescribe manner to mark the start of the counting of the Omer. Tis is a 49 day count down to the harvest festival, Shavuot (Lev. 23:9-12)
Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) commemorates the revelation of the Torah on Mt. Sinai to the Jewish people, and occurs on the 50th day after the 49 days of counting the Omer. Shavuot is one of the three biblically based pilgrimage holidays known as the Shalosh Regalim. It is associated with the grain harvest in the Torah.
